Read Rockwell’s “Letter to the Editor” (A&B 15) and Thomas Merton’s “Festival of Rain” (A&B 15-16).

Discuss in groups:

• What are the main differences between these two types of writing?
• What descriptive words or metaphors would you use to describe each one?
